Hi,
I have a pagemaker file with cyrillic fonts. I have used Times New Roman CYR fonts but when I make the pdf file the fonts are not recognizable. Therefore, I just installed Helvetica LT CYR but unfortunately when I use Helvetica LT CYR to write the text at pagemaker the fonts are not recognizable (i get "????" instead of the proper text). I have re-create .cnf but the problem remains.
When I use Helvetica LT CYR at MS Word everything is OK.
My target is to create the PDF file of the cyrillic text as soon as possible (i dont mind in which font.
Any ideas are welcome.
I would appreciate a suggestion asap.
Maria.

Are you by chance running PM on Windows 7?
We recently encountered a similar problem with pagemaker files.

Also: it depends whether you are using TrueType, OpenType or PostScript fonts.
What kind of fonts are you using?

Try other font types and check whether this solves the problem.

Also: check your distiller settings, whether ALL fonts are being embedded.

Hope this helps narrowing the problem.

Cheers,

See this page in the Adobe KB: Using Cyrillic fonts (PageMaker 6.0-7.x)

In short, PM only recognises the first 256 characters of a font, so the extended OpenType character set is useless from PH/s point of view. You may find a suitable Type1 font…

The long term solution is to forget PM which has been dead for the best part of a decade and use your PM Licence number to get a discounted upgrade to InDesign.

Hi,
Thank you for your messages.
Well I use Windows XP Professional. In Pagemaker 7 I tried to write cyrillic using Helvetica LT CYR True Type. Probably I should use Adobe Baskerville Cyrillic or Adobe Helvetica Cyrillic.
MakeitSo, have you managed to write cyrillic in Pagemaker 7? Which font did you use?

Maria.

Hi Maria,

we "solved" the problem by convincing the customer to use InDesign.
