I have placed an Illustrator-eps-file within Pagemaker 6.5. While printing, PageMaker always shuts down and displaying an Error 1. If I leave out the graph I can print the PM-file without any problems. I use this small graph (around 350kb) in several othe dokuments (also Pakemaker) without any printing-problems. I tried to save the graph as well as the PM-file using different file names and different configurations but that was not successfull.
Who can help me???

Your best bet may be to create a PDF of that file and place it into PM. Or, see if you can save the AI file as version8. I have a feeling the graph may contain elements that are newer than the vs of PM that you have, and that is probably causing the conflict. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

The graph I used is a Illustrator 8.0 saved graph. I rebuild it completely new and saved it in all available earlier versions of AI (from 3.0 ...) but it did not work.
I tried also to place the PDF into PM 6.5 but pagemaker crashed down as well. Is there a special option to place PDF-files into Pagemaker?
The wondrous thing on this whole story is that I have used the graph for over 1 year now in nearly all PM-files I created without having any problems.

Okay, maybe it is time for some housecleaning. Make sure you delete all temp files on your HD. Do a scan disk, do a defrag, reboot.

Is there anything at all in this file different from the previous ones? There would be no reason to save back to anything earlier than AI7.0, but I frequently have to take AI files back to 7 in order to use them in PM6.5.

If you go to Adobe site there is a page of downloads for PM. Here is the page for Windows (If you have mac, it is a different page)
Download and install the PDF import filter. This only works with Acrobat vs. 3, if you have a later vs. of acrobat this will not work.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
