Pagemaker 4.0 Conversion Help

I'm a Peace Corps volunteer working in Guyana South America at the Ministry of Education. I've got a National Science Curriculum Guide created in Pagemaker 4.0 on a Mac Performa 650.

I need to convert Pagemaker 4.0 files to Pagemaker 6.5 but they won't convert because it doesn't recognize the file type.

All I can find is conversion programs for Pagemaker 5.0 to 6.5. Any suggestions? SHOULD Pagemaker 6.5 be able to convert these 4.0 files?

Hi, pkingpet,

There's no need to "convert"; PM5, PM6.5 and PM7 will open PM4 files directly.

However, PM4 MAC files can't be opened on a windows PC except by PM4 Win.

Hi John,

Thanks for your help. I told the Ministry Officer to try and install Pagemaker 6.5 on that Performa 650. Hopefully then it will open up the 4.0 files so we can save them as 6.5 files and move them to another computer.

Problem is that the Mac G4 doesn't have a floppy disk drive so we had to take the files off the Performa using PC diskettes, trasfer them to a PC and burn the files onto a CD to shove into the Mac G4. By that point, Pagemaker on the G4 wouldn't recognize the Performa 650 Pagemaker 4.0 files and refused to open them.

The person who has Pagemaker 6.5 for the Mac is currently in the jungle/rainforest/bush (he's a Bauxite miner) so when he comes back into the city we'll get him to install Pagemaker 6.5 on that Performa. Hopefully, it will fit. I'll keep you posted.
