Hi All,

We have a 2008 64bit Terminal server (running in aplication mode)

All apears ok with no errors in the logs, howerver excel is very slow for users and hang in some spreadsheets for upto 15 sec.

The server have 16Gb ram and dual 2.5GB Xeon processors.

there are only 10 users that use it.

While trying to find an answer i noticed that windows had created a 24GB page file. could this be the issue?

I have read a couple of articals that state that if you have plenty of ram (16Gb) then no page file is recomended.

Does anyknow know what Microsoft recomends for 2008 64Bit?

Or has anyone come accross this slow excel on a terminal server

Many Thanks

By default Windows will use 1.5x the RAM size for the page file size. So 24GB would be the default.

As to not needing the page file, this is more true for desktop users than on the server side. If a user's PC has no page file and runs out of physical memory then it inconveniences that one user. If you server runs out of RAM, it inconveniences everyone who uses the server.

At any rate, I wouldn't expect the page file to be the issue unless the machine is doing excessive paging. I recommend doing the standard perfmon monitoring to get an idea of what is going on when the performance goes in the tank.

The anoying thing is it apears to be just excel 2007 causing the issue hanging for about 30 sec every few minuets

autosave disabled and even tryed running in xp mode - no joy.
