I have been making a web site for my friend's band for quite a while. I figured out a while ago that it wasn't being rendered in netscape. I did some work trying to clean it up, but it still doesn't render at all in old versions of netscape. Take a look at and let me know what could be causing the problem.
If you go to one of the other pages such as almost everything is displayed properly except the heading "pics" isn't displayed? maybe it is actually being displayed, but I can't see it becuse it is being rendered in black on the black background. The stylesheet modifies the body tag so that it should make all the text white.

At first I thought it would be the style modifying one of the table background images that was breaking the page, but I just tested it and that isn't the problem.

thanks in advance

old versions well, the probem probly runs quite deep - but you could just about take the chance to ignore any version < 6 now!

But styles are quite a pain with NN, you need to keep redefining them in each table cell and stuff.

I just checked it out in Netscape, and nothing appears at all on te home page? hmmm -BB "Alright whatever man, I'll hook up the hair, but I aint touchin the ring...Cause I'm still a pla--yer"

yeah, the initial page in netscape 4©7 was totally blank for me© what I am trying to figure out is WHY it is doing that© damnit© I would be fine with breaking any 3©0 browsers, but I would like to atleast have the 4©0 browsers work

I must disagree with the first reply. Noadays you must code for 3 browser types.

IE, Netscape < 6, Netscape 6+

Netscape fixed problems with table backgrounds(for the most part, the borders still mess things up), but some of the fixes make the operation of 6+ too similar to < 6, which means now you must:

if (nescape and version < 6)
...
else
...

The only true test is to keep all three version on your system. You can find both netscapes at ftp.netscape.com, I don't know about the website, they tend to only promote the newest.

Well it depends on the demographic you are aiming at, sure for run of the mill, generic type target audiences you need to keep NS4 (for now) - but for something which seems a bit like a pet project, a little experimental - I wouldn't lose toooo much sleep over it - particularly when obviously the site was created with no allowance made for NS4: could take time to fix. "Alright whatever man, I'll hook up the hair, but I aint touchin the ring...Cause I'm still a pla--yer"
