I give up! The page server simply refuses to cooperate and I am at a loss as to how to go about troubleshooting.

Situation:

We moved to CE 9 a few months ago, and from the get-go we've had issues with the page server. It simply STOPS performing - and to get it to restart we have to go into dos prompt and kill the process, and then restart the page server.

This was happening on a daily basis, and I increased the memory available, which stretched the timing out a bit.
Things got better for a while and it was actually staying up and running for 5 to 6 days at a time.

However, Monday it started going loopy again and now it is going down daily.

I could really use some insight as to how other people handle their page server? How do you troubleshoot to see where the problem is and what is causing it to go down?
How often are you all resetting the services, and / or rebooting the server completely?

Any ideas out there?

LMC,

Sorry to here about your troubles :(

Are you hotfixed to the max?

What O/S? What H/W config.

Anything intersting in the log?

What is your Page Server to Cache server processing threads ratio?

Are the reports monsters?

How many concurrent requests?

What is the capital of Burundi (oh sorry, forget that last one... it's Bujumbura!).

I'm hot fixed to the max, yes - and we're on XP...

I'm going in to get the rest of the answers to your questions right now but before I do - what should I be looking for in the log? How do I get to it? I've tried this before with no luck...any hints?

LMCRYER - I am seeing similar pageserver freakiness here; did you get any good solution for this issue? How do you kill the process via dos?

Do a KILL command (KILL process id).

LMC

Thanks; I don't even know how to get the pid, but I will look around.

I just guessed on tasklist and this seems to be the ticket. Thanks again!
