Hi,

I am a programmer for a small buisness which decided that they wanted to share their crystal reports using crystal enterprise and me being the only computer literate person around they ask me to instal and configure it :-S

Im not au fait with data base servers etc but thought I would give it a go.

I managed to instal it and publish some reports then sucessfully connect to it via the browsers and run reports etc. Since then I have messed around in the admin section and got quite familiar with it however I am having one recurring problem that I have no idea how to resolve.

The reports run fine it can be for weeks or months and then all of a sudden, whether it is from a system change or a server reboot I am not sure but when I run a report I get a message saying the page erver is not available please contact your system administrator.

A reboot doesnt seem to sort it the only thing I have found so far that does is to uninstall and reinstall crystal enterprise, as you can imagine this is a long job as I have to publish all the reports afterwards. I know there has to be less cumbersome way to resolve it than this but im at a loss to know what it is.

I understand this may not be a good explanation of the problem however like I say Im not a data base guy. If anyone has a solution I will be very grateful.

Thanks,

PJ

Hi there,

This error message appears when there is no Cache
Server available to the Enterprise machine.

Try adding or enabling the Cache Server from the Crystal Configuration Manager.

Hi,
Be sure the Crystal services are set to start automatically when the system reboots..

Before something as drastic as a reinstall, check the CCM and see if you can restart the page or cache servers..

The Windows event log will also provide info as to why a service fails..

Thanks guys, help greatly appriciated and helped me to resolve the problem.

When I go into the Admin launchpad and look at servers they were disabled, I enabled them and started them and all was sweet.

The problem I had was I was looking at the servers through crystal configuration manager (Start/Crystal Enterprise/CCM) and in there it showed them all as running, it was only through the admin launch pad where it showed them as stopped. Dont ask me to explain further as I am totaly green to this.. either way its worked and I didnt need to reinstal... :)

Thanks again......

Hi,
For you future reference, you can check/set the 'enabled/disabled' state with the CCM as well..On the tool bar there is an button that looks like a Check Mark on a server ( if you hover your mouse, it will pop up a tool-tip that says Enable/Disable Servers)..

Also for future reference - if you copy the system database and input and output repository folder/files before uninstalling-reinstalling - then copy them back after install - you wont have to republish all your reports again!

Hi All,

I also have a Page server problem after the reports are running fine for a while. It appears also that it stopped working after the web server was rebooted. We are on CE10. Our server administrator who installed CE is currently out of office. As far as I know, the CMS is on a Windows server and we are using a UNIX server to pass the online requests via the Crystal web connector.

We got the following when the error first apeared:
There was an error retrieving data from the server: The Page Server cannot logon to the CMS. This is due to invalid security credentials. Please verify your user ID and password.

Business Object tech support asked us to create a new page server. After starting and enabling the new Page server, we are now getting the following error:
There was an error retrieving data from the server: The Page Server you are trying to connect to is not accessible. Please contact your system administrator.

Both the Cache server and the Page server are enabled and running. I am able to schedule the report to refresh. I am getting this error only when trying to preview in CMC or view on demand in eportfolio.

Could you please let me know a solution for this? Thank you very much for your help.

A couple things to try -

In the Crystal Configuration Manager, check the Properties of the Page Server to see what the service is logging in as - is it the same login as the CMS, Job Server, etc.?

Is the CMS running?

Restart the Page Server, then check the Application Event log on the server, see what errors you're getting.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Except for the Input File Repository Server and the Web Component Server, they all have the same User ID. The Input File Repository Server and the Web Component Server is logging in as LocalSystem while the other servers seems to be using a domain user id.

CMS is running.

Is the Application Event log in Crystal Enterprise 10\Enterprise 10\Logging?

After restarting the Page server, the error from the Pager server log has the following warning:
SIWarning: CCacheServerMgrListener:: Update newService error <1027> <BlockingReportSourceRepository>. The log however indicated the cache server is up.

The error from the WCS log says:
SIWarning: CCacheServerMgrListener::Update newService error <1027> <BlockingReportSourceRepository>
[Mon Sep 12 19:31:11 2005] 5576 4808
trace message: SIWarning: newService failed <BlockingReportSourceRepository>: 1027

Trying wcasd25.chemd.net: 6403[Mon Sep 12 19:32:12 2005] 5576 4808
trace message: SIWarning: ResolveSocket failed!

What does it mean?

Thanks!
