Hi,

I have a +50 page word document and i want to number the pages from page 8 onwards, starting from 1 and incrementing. Pages 1-7 must not have numbers.

I've tried using Header/Footer and Insert | Page Numbers but neither of them are doing what i want them to do.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Place Section Breaks/Next Page between the first 8 pages. Click somewhere on the first page, then Insert/Page Numbers... and DESELECT the "Show number on first page" box. Page 1 will no longer have page numbers. Do the same for pages 2 through 7. Then click somewhere on Page 8, do Insert/Page Numbers..., click "Format", and do "Restart numbering" at 1.

Kludgy, but it should work!

Hi,
On Page 1, click on View menu and select Header/Footer.
From the toolbar, click on first icon (Insert Page Number).
Close Header/Footer toolbar and return to document.
On Page 7 of your document, click on the Insert menu and select Break.
Click on Continuous and OK.
On Page 8 of your document, double-click in header/footer area to open it, deselect Same As Previous on the toolbar (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT), highlight the page number and click Format Page Number icon on toolbar.
At bottom of the dialog box, in the Start At window, enter 1 (sometimes it can act goofey and you may need to enter a zero instead).
Close the toolbar.
Return to Page One of document, double-click in header/footer area again to open it, and delete the page number.
This should now show no page numbers on 1-7 and page 8 begins with "1".
Good luck,

What you need to do is to insert a "section break" at the end of page 7. The method of doing this differs depending on the version of Word - in XP it is "insert" on the menu, then "break", then click on "next page" under "section break types". This may have the side effect of creating an extra blank page as page 8 - just press the delete buttin while at the start this page to bring your old page 8 back.

Pages 1 to 7 should now be "Section 1" while pages 8 onwards should be "section 2". You can now insert header/footer for page 8, but you need to make sure that the default "Same as previous section" is unchecked. (In XP it is one of the icons on the header/footer toolbar). For earlier versions of Word, you'll need to explore the menus a bit or look in the help system to find out where these options are.

Now you should be able to set the header/footer for pages 8 onwards to have page number (and you can force the numbers to start from 1) without having any footer/header showing on pages 1 to 7.
