I need one specific page on its own...is there a way to put in a page break since im storing ALL of this general static data in the details section? Or should I just place it as the report footer?

Thanks

Jon

You can select (or use a formula) new page after on any section by right clicking the section and selection format section.

If this doesn't resolve for you, perhaps you can share when this page break is to occur, and why.

The Report Footer sound both easiest and perhaps the most appropriate.

Do you have multiple detail sections? If so, and you need the one with the static data in the middle of the report, you might be able to use the conditional formula related to the New Page Before option in the Section Expert to do this. In the section expert, select the static details section and then click on the x+2 button for the New Page Before option. If you can write a conditional formula that would evaluate to true for the static details section (and only for that section), then you could cause that section to print on the next page, and if you set the New Page After option (also using the conditional formula so it doesn't break on any other detail section, the details section would be completely isolated on its own page.

Here's my problem...
I have a LOT of general static data for a letter...
and I want to store it all in the details section..
so I have typed out the complete letter...
But for instance right when I preview it...it just displays the header for page 2 and starts on page 3...I just thought it would display as much as it could and then use a new page when it needed to..but its not doing that...isnt there a way to set it up so that basically what you see is what you get?

Then my last page I need ALONE...seperatly.

Thanks,Jon

In the section expert for the details section, turn off the setting Keep Together

I tried that...i turned off keep together and it still goes to the next page.

I wish i could show you :(

So is all of the static text in one text object? Have you made sure that the Keep Object Together option for the text object is also turned off?

Haha...i didnt know the text object had that option.
That worked!

Should I keep it in one details section or is that bad practice?

Jon

ok so all is well...
except I dont want to put this last page in the report footer...cause I still want it to use the page header...

so is there a way to put a page break after this HUGE static section of text??? and then include this portion in the details section as well?

Thanks / Jon

Well, whatever works for your report...

It also depends on the version of Crystal, as the earlier versions are more restricted. For example, if you have address lines for the inside address, you might have something like this in your text object:

{table.AddressField1}
{table.AddressField2}
{table.AddressField3}
{table.AddressField4}

Dear {table.ContactName}

...

So, what if your data for a particular company doesn't have anything in AddressField3? In 8.5 (and maybe 8.0) and above you have the option to suppress embedded blank fields, so you don't get a blank line where field 3 goes when there's no data for it. But in earlier versions that option wasn't there. So you would need to address that issue by placing the fields in their own sections and using the "suppress blank section" option.

Anyway, I would be inclined to break it up a little bit and not put it all in one section; I think you get more flexibility that way. But if you do that, make sure you turn of the Keep together option for each section.

Jon:

hmmm...I don't understand your last question. The page header will print on the same page as the report footer, so how does having something in the report footer negate the page header? Also, can you clarify what you mean by "and then include this portion in the details section as well"

I got it :)
I just created a detailed section B under my regular detailed section.

Seems to have done the job...

Thanks so much you are VERY helpful!!!

Using crystal 8.5. I have a GroupHeader1:SORTNAME. I want the report show a set number of SORTNAMES (ie 6) then move to the next page. What is happening is that despite using the Format Section keep together feature, on some pages a GroupHeader will show but the supporting data shows on the next page. I looked at Format Section: New page after feature. Is there a way to solve this issue
