Hi,

I'm laying out a book in PageMaker 6.5 and I want to create either a style or master page to do the following:

1. Have the first page of each chapter appear on the right-hand page of the two-page spread.

2. Have the first element of each chapter, its title, be one inch from the top of the page.

For 2, I currently have a style called "Chapter Title" which sets the paragraph to begin 1 inch down the page. However, to get this to work, I have to put a hard return before the chapter title, which means I have two paragraphs. As a result, when I check the "page break before" box, I get two page breaks: one before the spacer paragraph and one before the chapter title. Is there a better way to do this, or do I have to manually insert my page breaks? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Misty

Hi, Myatia,

IME, the best way to do that is have each chapter as a separate PM file and use the "Book" utility.

Yes, the "paragraph space before" requires a hard return to be present. Another way is to increase the leading considerably and then use "align-to-grid".

The easiest way is to highlight the text, open the Control Palette (Ctrl+# on a UK keyboard) and then adjust the position of the text until you are happy with it. Then use Type -> Styles to save it.
