I have a problem with the way the data on my report is printed. My report has one text field in the detail section, and can vary in size for different clients, and a large report footer (44.5cm) that contains a sizeable amount of text.

Depending on the amount of data in the detail section, the first page of the report will sometimes cut the last line of type in half and then print the other half at the top of the next page. This line of type is text from the report footer. The text doesn't seem to move onto the second page properly.

I have the Keep Together property set to no.

The maximum page height for an Access report is 22 inches (55.7 cm).

That may be causing your problem, as your footer is over 44 cm. of that maximum

Thanks for your reply.

Is it then possible somehow to set a page break if the first page is a certain length?

Open your report in Design view and check Help for "conditional page break." It shows how to set a page break, with VBA or a Macro, if a certain condition is met. You may be able to figure out how to do it from that.

Just a question, however...is there a reason that your Page Footer has to be so large?

If so, could you "force a new page" after the Detail section in every case, so that the Footer always appears on the second page?

Tom

The reason the footer is so large is because there is standard text that needs to be in the report for every client. This text needs to follow straight on after the data in the detail section.

For some clients, the detail section is larger than for others (this data doesn't exceed the first page). The text from the footer will start on the first page (below the details) and then continue to the 2nd page. The text in the footer remains the same for everyone.

If I force a new page, then the standard text does not follow on after the details.

I don't know whether the conditional page break will work as I've tried playing around with the page break in different places in the footer, but it still manages to cut the last line of data in half.

Thank you for your help

So it is always just this last line of the text in the footer?

I am wondering two things...
1. Since this text that is in the footer is the same for every client, could you move that text to the Detail section?
2. Could you copy that text and paste it here so that I could have a look at it in a dummy database?

Is the text in the footer a label or a text box?

Tom

Hi Tom

It is not necessarily the last line of the footer, it can be any line in the footer depending on how much data is in the detail section. Pasting the footer data in the detail section repeats for each record in the detail.

Is there anyway to attach or send you the database? It zips up to small 56k.

We don't post actual e-mail addresses on here because it leaves the site subject to unwanted mail.

However, I will put where to send your database in simple text that you can interpret...

Does it work any better if you put your 'standard text' in a 'group footer' (grouping by client) rather than in the 'report footer'?

Greg,
I have tried that too. But it does the same thing, still cuts the last line in half. It's like Access doesn't really know where the bottom margin is and just guesses.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to conclude this thread, it appears that the problem is solved by increasing the height of a text box in a group header.

Tom

Yes the problem is fixed. Thank you for your help.
