I have a partner release 3 that is rebooting itself periodicaly, and need to replace it with a R4. Can I just do a back up, pull the pcmcia card to the R4 and power up then restore from pcmcia? Our core product is the IPO, so I do not have much time on this system. If not can the pc admin software for partner convert the R3 back up to R4? I tried it on site quickly and the system does not see the R3 back up, in the restore mode. I do not find any documentation on this. Can anyone help me out? If there is a document out there, please steer me to it.

Nope, there is no convert utility for either the on-board translations, or the PC admin utility. You can't restore an R4 from a backup file from an R3. If you could get ahold of an R4 flash upgrade card as well, you could upgrade your current processor, which will convert the translations in the process, save the new ones to the PC card, swap it to your new R4 replacement, and restore from that.

A lot of cost for some probably simple programming.

Use the PC software to look at the current programming, and program the new one by hand.

email me your current translation file, and I'll make you an R4 file, and send it back!

TTT, thanks,
I already started looking at the translation and programming the R4 from the R3 translation I saved on the PC. It just seems pretty weak of the acs to not be able to convert the file to R4, or at least the PC admin software to not be able to convert it. I started programming the R4 during commercials on TV tonight, I am not that upset because the customer said do whatever it takes to get me back up by 8 AM, so I am doing it on emergency rate tonight, and the replacement tommorrow at 7 AM.
I used to do Toshibe, and the translation were actually a text file, so when upgrades conversions were not possible I would open one of each release and edit the text file to match the newer release then just use the new text file imported into the admin software. It was not according to hoyle, but it worked in half the time or less.

Thanks again, is this true for all ACS releases that they do not translate forward without upgrading the processor first? I thought there should be a quicker way, I would not have bothered to ask, but the system is full blown 5 slot with almost every ext having different buttons on the 36exts., 34 and 18d's. I tried to sell them an IPO , but they didn't bite that quick.
Thanks again TTT

I believe that is true, the PC admin software does not allow for the upgrade of a lower version translation to an upper version translation. I wish it were possible to upgrade translations on Partner as you describe for Toshiba. As a Systems Administrator I could see how that could be possible but Partner just does not allow for it. Ha-Rumph! Se la vie!
