Hello,

I'm a newbie of Java, but have knowledge of VB, CPP and OOD.
I'm planning a quite small util that will be consisted of frontend (GUI) and backend. This util should be run under Windows and Unix (solaris, linux etc.).

I just wonder what are the recommended tools or methods to package this util so it can be installed easily by end users. Are your recommended tools valid for Unix too?

Thanks in advance!

You want to write an application packager in Java, or you want to use an application packager to distribute your Java application ?

So this question doesn't actually have anything to do with Java then ... you should use whatever packager you think is best for the target OS (eg on unix/linux possibly the ".run" installer, or maybe shar; on Win32 an MSI or InstallShiled app).

Thanks.
Do you know if any of the tools you mentioned above is freeware?

the nix stuff is, the Win32 stuff I mentioned are not.

Just google around for something that meets your needs.
