Pack 'n go feature pack's everything but when I try to open a file with x-ref's the paths are not found and attemps to type the (new) local path the command line reads invalid
Is this a setting I can change the files were created in r14 and have been accessed in 2002 - I am trying to open it in a 2000 version on my PC @ home....

If I am understanding you correctly, the problem is because the xref is saved with its "full" path (i.e. M:\some_folder\another_folder\dwg.dwg). Unless you happen to have M:\some_folder\another_folder\ as a file path at home, the dwg cannot "find" the xref. You can do a couple things. Save the xref in the drawing without the path (important point! the xref source must then reside in the same folder as the drawing that is using it as an xref or the file must be in AutoCAD's support path). You can also include a new support path or point to the drawing on the fly (when it prompts for the path). I hope this helps.

You can open a drawing without loading the xref at begining.
At Open file dialogue box, next to the button OPEN, u will see one arrow showing more option. Go into that, U will see Partial Open option. This will bring another dialogue box. At lower left hand(R2002) u will see a check box for Unload all xref on Open. just check that box, open the drawing...& browse to locate your files. Good Luck.
