Hi AIXers,

I'm trying to implement an automatic power off to our P5 570s 2 machines. The power outage signal will come to one of the partitions which will have to go through the network and issue a remote shutdown to other paritions then power off the machines and last the HMC.

I have ssh configured with no password authentication to make this simple.

The problem now is that i won't be able to shutdown that partition (one that will trigger the shutdown to others) safely because I need it to power off the P5 570s machines and then somehow the HMC! So there is a missing link in here that i'm trying to cover.

I see the only way to do this is to make a standalone machine outside the P5s to control the process but I'm still not sure if this can be done through passing control the the HMC which will shutdown all partitions, the P5s and at last itself.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Khalid

Thanks RMGBELGIUM for your input.

The problem is that if I connect the UPS to the P5 570 machine i will need an RS232 connection to one of the partitions as i can't do it on the HMC. This will lead to the same problem of not being able to shutdown the HMC as i will have to power off the managed system and so does that partition which has the RS232 connection!

I've already came up with a solution to this! I managed to install cygwin sshd on my windows machine. I then configured ssh between the Windows machine and the HMC with no password. Now i can shutdown all partitions remotely from Windows (through a trigger than sense the UPS RS232 connected to the Windows box) then power off the managed systems and finally the HMC itself :)

Thanks alot for your input and have a star for trying to help :)

Regards,
Khalid
