Hi all,

I have to replace an aging LJ 4000N printer with a new one after many years of loyal service. After pricing the HP P2015x I cannot find any information about support of PJL. Does this printer have support for PJL? If not can anyone recommend a new HP laserjet that supports it but is relatively cheap (around the $500/$600 range)?

Thanks,

The P2015 supports most PJL/PCL commands like the older HP printers but since the printer has limited scaleable PCL font support, (HP design fault imo) due to a small FW size on the formatter people not using the priner for Windows printing should be aware of the limitations caused by this.
Uploading fonts via the Windows driver, Device storage Manager, Web JetAdmin or other applications also doesn't seem to work properly.
HP however is aware of these issues and will release a font dimm that will resolve most of the PCL font related issues sometime medio-end of january. Part number is going to be CB456-67901.

This also appears to be the case with the CLJ2605.

Is this a general trend with the cheaper LJ devices (i.e. that HP is gradually removing PCL5 support in favour of PCL6 and PostScript)?

Has HP documented these issues in a public document?

Is the font DIMM likely to be available with the CLJ2605 (and other devices)?

Sorry for the late reply...

I cannot say if the issues with the CLJ 2605 are compareable to those of the LJ P2015 but I can tell without hessitation that the FW dimm of the LJ P2015 is too small (4MB) to hold all of the fonts that was probably planned from the beginning by HP. Therefore HP decided to cut out some of the fonts from the FW dimm (to leave space for the printer system software) and unfortunately it was the PCL 5 fonts that had to suffer not the PCL 6 fonts.

The font dimm being released for the LJ P2015 is probably intended for that model only. It is possible that this dimm will fit the LJ 2605 also as it is referred to as "PCL 5 dimm", but the part number suggests it's only for the LJ P2015.
There is not really any "public" info on above as most of such stuff is kinda HP company confidential. I have just taken the inside info I have and rewritten it a bit [wink]
