Does anyone know if a Power Over Ethernet Switch rather than local power can run the i2002 and i2004 phones?

I have a Cisco 3550 POE switch that supplies 16V 1/2Amp power on my fourth pair.

Can I put the Nortel phones on this switch and thus eliminate my need for a local power supply...?

i would think that will be fine ...all the phone cares is it gets the power to run, if it gets from the desk or the phone closet.

but you might want to check out, as there were competing standards for PoE (something like which wires to use, what rating and so forth ...not sure of that) if the cisco's standards matches that of the phone

Thank you Senk1s, you, like so many others here, are always so helpful.

That is what I figured as well, and I do know that there were differing attempts at standardization.
I have just been unable to find any documentation on the Nortel sets as to what they are looking for.

The way it is actually done for the i2002, I2004 is: There is an adapter that takes the power from the powered LAN cable and breaks it out onto a short power plug which is then inserted into the power jack on the set.
