Hello All,

I apologize in advance for my post not being very clear, and for the lack of details. But my question is for an application that I did not even know existed before this morning.

My boss has an access application containing a macro, that was scheduled to run at a certain time every night. A couple of weeks ago, he upgraded his PC to Access 2003, and now he does not have permissions to do anything with this macro.

And he can't change the permissions, because owner is <Unknown>. Any ideas on how to get this macro (and presumably any other objects) out of the database and into another where he can work with them?

TIA,

Alex

Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates?
Yes.
Morons!

I think that this has to do with the previous System.mdw used for openning the mdb. Although he might not had user level security on he was logging as Admin with blank password. If he could join the previous mdw he could do what he wants. And that happens if you create a blank mdb and then join a different mdw where UserID and his PID are different!

Thanks for the response Jerry, unfortunately he can't join the System.mdw (the new one anyways). Do you think we need to somehow recover the .mdw from before the upgrade? Uninstall 2003 and go back to 2000? I'm really sorry if these are stupid questions, I tried setting up workgroup security once, and quickly found other means...

I have been running all my applications on 2003 for over a year now with no issues like this, so I think that user level security must have been set up on this app at some point. When, however, is anyone's guess.

If I think that user level security must have been set up on this app at some point then he deffinetely needs to find the mdw file used. If it was named System.mdw, reinstalling the previous version the file is to be overwritten and good bye bye-bye! If it was not named like that, search and ... rescue. The hardest is to create a new mdw, and recreate users+groups with their UserIDs and PIDs used when first created.

I'm sure it was not backed up...

Thanks for your help Jerry, I'll let you know how this turns out.
