Hello All,

We have issues from time to time when a user will receive an word or excel attachment (I work in a school, and students need to work on their homework from different locations), they open the attachment, but rather than do a "Save As" and save the document to their desktop (I'm trying to get them in that habit) they work on the document, then they click on "Save", but they are not prompted to save the document anywhere. They continue working on the document and clicking "Save" assuming the document is getting saved somewhere, but when I do a search of the entire hard drive the document is not present anywhere.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this or where exactly when you click on "Save" does the document go? Is this getting saved somewhere on the Exchange server?

Thanks in advance. I would appreciate any help.

When you click on Save it saves it to a temporary location, either Temporary Internet Files or the actual Temp folder.

As this is just a cache or temporary storage the contents can change frequently and garbage collection happens (where files are removed.)

Likely what happened is when the browser was closed, the temporary files were removed.

We have had that problem here at the organization where I work. Some staff members have lost a half a dozen documents before they finally learned to Save As somewhere else first.

In short, there's not much an admin can do about it.

Thanks. That makes sense. That's probably what happened, after closing the browser the file is not there anymore. As you noted, they need to do the "Save As" function as a "Best Practice". We have most of them thinking this way :}
