OWA not sending external email

I have a windows small business server with exchange 2000 and OWA setup.

If we connect via VPN or even directly over the LAN it wont send any emails to external email addresses.

Sending to anything within the domain is fine, but when sending to anything outside the domain it appears to be sent - ie it shows up in the users sent items folder but the recipient never recieves the email.

Any help would be greatly appreciaated

First, you may want to check your queues and see if it has not left your org yet.

no, nothing in the queues. I have left it over the weekend anyway so anything in the queue it should have gone through.

Have you tried turning on message tracking and doing a trace on it to see where it is getting hung up?

Your post also specifically mentions that you are having problems with OWA sending mail - I'm assuming you're also having same problems sending through traditional Outlook client?
