Greetings - I have recently purchased and installed a web certificate for OWA.When accesing my exchange webmail the certificate works fine. When accessing the same portal (same website) by IP address I get server certificate error. I called godaddy.com and they are saying that is ok because the secure certificate is under webmail and not IP address.

Is this how should be? Please help me here.

Thank you

Theo

That's how it should be. When you purchased the certificate, you supplied them with a CN (common name). In this case, webmail.domainname.com. The certificate works for that address, and nothing else (assuming it's not a subject alternative name certificate).

Why would you use the IP address?

Plan for performance, and capacity takes care of itself. Plan for capacity, and suffer poor performance.

The question was more for informational purposes. I was asked this question today and I was under the impression that should work either way, but I guess not. You are right no reason for anyone accessing the site using the IP address.

Thank you again for the clarification!
