What version of NNM are you using ?
What patches have you applied ?
Also, have you correctly configured all devices (including NNM itself) in your DNS or hosts file ? NNM is VERY easily upset if you do not correctly set up the DNS/hosts file. See for more info.

Have you looked in the Log directory for OpenView on the system, to see if a netmon file is there, indicating the root-cause of the problem, perhaps?
