When trying to log into my switch (CS1000), I am getting the following error - OVL111. I think this is an overlay message but not sure what it means. Any help??

Its just a system idle message...there should be more to the message like OVL111 IDLE

You should be able to login.

Yes, it does say TTY 14 SCH 12:03 OVL111 IDLE 0

But, I get it everytime I hit enter after typing logi admin1

It's not prompting me for a password?

That means that there is something on TTY 14 logged on right now. Is there somebody else logged in to the system? Or maybe an SEB or modem that might be logged from off site?

Should def not be...I am the only one with access. Isn't there a way to FORCE off a TTY?

You can disable the TTY port in LD 37

DIS TTY 14

But you might want to find out what it is first.

LD 22
REQ PRT
TYPE ADAN TTY

See if there is a DES (description)

When your logged out and hit enter key, what does it print out. POST

When I just hit enter, I get TTY 14 SCH 12:58 OVL111 BKGD 44

When I type logi admin1 and hit enter, I get TTY 14 SCH 12:58 OVL111 IDLE 0

The issue is I cannot login what-so-ever...I can never get to the prompt to enter my password...

this is my tty at idle
Code:
TTY 00 MTC MCT 13:59
OVL111 BKGD 44

your showing idle but not users mtc mct which allows login from a maint term

Yeah, sorry about that, I was telling you how to force a TTY off but your not being able to log in from your terminal.

So would I need to login from the switch itself? Currently I am trying all of this from a VT session through Element Manager...

Thats most likey where your problem is, since you are the only user. If you have access to the terminal, try to log in from there.

Ok, there is no terminal at the switch. The switch is an Opt.11C...is there a J connector on the switch that I could plug onto to log in via a term?

THe Option 11 has an SDI connection in the chasis for the cabinet. Usually a DB9 with 3 heads on the other end each a DB 25. Use the TTY ports there with hyper-terminal. You'll need a nul modem adapter

Hello,
have you tested to login only with upper case
LOGI ADMIN1

If you ever get locked out again you can reset the tty by logging into a maintance telephone
1.enter the SPREE CODE + 91
2.type LD 37 #on the dial pad
3.type dis tty 0 #(for example)on the dial pad
4.type enl tty 0 # on the dial pad
