Overwrite files even when locked?

Hi, I'm using SAP BI Platform to export reports that are in PDF format to a local folder that's shared. The problem is that these PDF reports/files are constantly locked and is preventing any overwriting. I have to use Share and Storage Management to remove those locks every time and I do see the hostname of the PC (varies) locking those files. I'm not even sure if it's an actual user who has the file open (for viewing) or is this an issue where the server locks it for no apparent reason.

I tried using openfiles command in a batch script and schedule the job to run seconds before the BI Platform schedules a report to run. This is a hit and miss so far and I'm guessing that it's not working for the most part. I also tried using Unlocker through the command line without any success.

Has anyone else run into this problem before or have a fix for this issue? I don't mind kicking the users off forcefully if it means that I can overwrite these files. No one should be editing these so it doesn't matter if they get kicked off or not. I just want to have this process automated and not have to manually login to the server to unlock those files.

We're using Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit.

Thanks.

Why don't you restrict the Domain Users group to read only rights for those files? Give the service account that overwrites them write rights.

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Mark
