Hello everyone,
When i try to download a file from a server to my laptop via AFP (Apple File Protocol over TCP/IP), the file transfer is unbearably SLOW. Transferring a 1 meg file takes about 2 mins (that's way too slow). However, uploading the same file to the server takes about the time to blink an eye.

At first I thought it was my router/switch. but I connected to my server via a crossover cable and the problem still persisted. According to my network analyzer, during download many of the packets experience errors (about 70%!!) due to "Oversize Packet". This doesn't happen on the upload or if I use SMB or FTP protocol.

What could be going on??

Only thing that I can think of is that you have a mismatch in the MTU size for the two machines. Not sure how you check that on the Mac (can't imagine why you would bother with AFP unless its a Mac).

My guess was that the TCP/IP 'wrapper' on a AFP frame drove the size over ethernets limit, sadly I don't know how to adjust that.

ipnettuner may be what you need in classic or OSX versions

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
