Override message.

Hello everyone.

I have a gem here. One of my co-workers has a Compaq Presario Model 5070 with a monitor with model 770.

The problem is that they were using the computer typing a research paper, when the monitor's screen became black the a small blue box that read "Override". That's it. No other message. The computer doesn't even get to the POST. It just stops at this message. I disconected the computer from the monitor and the monitor still read "Override". Does anyone knows what this means? I cannot find this information anywhere. This is the integraded video card.

Since the monitor maintains the "override" when disconnected, this would indicate that the monitor is not receiving a signal. You have tried a different monitor? This would eliminate the monitor and data cable. Does this computer allow you to install a video card? If you can, install one, and see if it works. If so, this would point to the onboard video chip. If this is bad, you need a new motherboard. What is the warranty status on this unit?

Thank you for your prompt response. I didn't have another monitor to try out. But as you stated, I suspect that the onboard video chip is bad. Hopefully, I can put another one in one of the slots. There doesn't appear to be any jumpers to disable the onboard video adapter. I did find that it has to be disabled via BIOS. Which is crazy because I can't get to that point. Hopefully I can still install another video card then if it works, disable the onboard one via Bios.
By the way, the system is over five years old. Of course, I suggested that they need an upgrade, they will get one later in the summer.
