Looking for ways to trim down file size a bit to save server space.

Anyone familiar with the OVERKILL command and what it's options are?

Looks like it could be dangerous, it modifies entities in the drawings.

Suggestions?

Try it on a backup copy.

We've used it, mainly to delete duplicate objects. Works well. Check Express Tools help for some description of the options.

Just noticed from the documentation that it makes changes to objects in the drawings, joining them, "simplifying" them...

With all the auto generated objects/items in Civil 2004, it seems kind of risky to let this thing run.

Just wondering if there were any horror stories about this command yet.

Unless you're pretty sure you have duplicate entities, there are other ways to minimize file size. With overkill you can select options to *not8 combine collinear or overlapping lines and arcs, and whether to ignore color, linestyle, layer, etc in comparing objects. Did you read E.T. help?

Have you used purge, layer filter delete, etc. as first methods of reducing file sizes? Unless you have lots of duplicate objects, these methods will likely do a lot more for reducing file size than Overkill will.

Purge, yes. The layer filter is something I'll look into, thanks for the pointer. Turned off most of the options for the Overkill command, seems to work okay. Good drafters get 17 or 18 hits on their drawings...while others have 980 some extra objects in the files.
