Overhead paging 1

I have a customer that uses an avaya partner ACS system. When someone in the facility is making an announcement using (overhead paging), if any handset is picked up that is connected to the phone system, it immediately cuts off the person using the overhead paging. Why is that happening?

You're probably doing an Intercom *70 instead of Intercom 70.

Intercom 70 is overhead paging only.

Intercom *70 is overhead paging AND calling group 1 simultaneously. Anyone picking up a handset while being paged through a calling group connects to the person making the page for a "meet-me" page.

(Intercom *71 is group 1 only, without the overhead)
