Hello all,

I am needing to add an overhead paging solution to our existing VOIP system. I can use an ATA-186 into a Valcom Zone controller but I am concerned. Because there is no disconnect line supervision, the Valcom will not know to disconnect the line and may get stuck off-hook.

Is this a problem or am I thinking too hard?

Are there "smart" Valcom type controllers that will release, lets say, after 3 seconds of silence?

Does anyone know of an alternate solution? Maybe IP based or AUX port etc.?

Thanks,

Ray

I have deployed several Valcom paging and remote entry units with Call Manger, using both FXO ports and ATA-186's. I've not seen too many problems, pretty simple setup and config.

Valcom has a new product line, that features IP Enabled paging units. I've not deployed on yet, but hope to soon. Check the Valcom website for info.

I recently came across a PDF file from the Cisco website that describes the use of analog E&M port/s to connect to an overhead paging system. I'm afraid I forgot the exact URL but I have the file with me.

It has detailed diagrams and stuff but I have not really tried it yet. I really don't know if this is what you're looking for.

Try to do a search. Here's the document title.

Cisco − Using Analog E&M Ports to Interface to Overhead Paging Systems.
