Our legacy ERP application is running on SCO UNIX OpenServer 5.0.4 Enterprise. The files syslog, wtmp, and wtmpx have gotten so large that I cannot open them through scoadmin or in vi. I get core dumps and the system reboots when I try to open them. The book from my SCO class says not to delete log files for various reasons. Is there any other way I can clear them? I was able to clear the messages log file. Thanks in advance for your help.

Save a copy, if you really need the login history, and then just flatten them using the following commands:

[tt]cd /var/adm
> wtmp > wtmpx[/tt] Annihilannic.

Thanks for the answer, Annihilannic. It worked perfectly.
