I understand that by using a routing schedule other than normal, you can setup an alternate route for your outgoing calls when a line pool is all in use.

I have node this successfully using Mroberts instructions and the only problem for me is that when this situation occurrs, you get a message on you phone saying "expensive"

I was wondering about the following 2 points.

1) Is it possible to turn this "expensive" message off?

2) I notice that under 6.1 you have additional routing alternate options available ( I think up to 3). Do these options in 6.1 replace the previous overflow options? Do any of these options allow for overflow routing without posting the word "expensive" in the display???

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this.

Sorry, hon, you will not get rid of the 'expensive' display. The procedure is a way to get one pool to overflow to the other but it is not exactly designed for use during normal hours. I don't know why Nortel doesn't change that and allow overflow programming for normal modes but they don't. 6.1 doesn't change this.

Mroberts,

So then what is the change in 6.1 about? They seem to offer several alternate routes as overflow options if I am reading the doc correctly. Does expensive show up in all off them?

Thanks for answering my Q.

Overflow routing (from 6.1 installer guide)

(((((If all the lines used by a route are busy when a call is made, the mode may be programmed to overflow to the route used for normal mode. If this happens, the telephone will sound a warning tone and display the message Expensive route

Tips - A schedule must be active for overflow routing to be
in effect. Overflow routing is not available in Normal mode.
You must create an overflow route to be used with each
destination code. In this way, every route used with a
scheduled mode that has overflow service must have an
alternate route in Normal service.)))))

So as you can see, in order to have an overflow set up you must be currently running a schedule. IE., having Night Service on all the time. Then when all the lines are busy the call will overflow to the Normal mode. When that happens the phone will display "Expensive Route".

Overflow routing is not available in Normal mode.

Mroberts,

I have looked in the manual and the item I was referring to is called Multiple least cost routing (page 396 installer guide). This is a new feature to 6.1 and seems to do what the older "expensive" overflow routing did.

Have you looked into this? And the real question is does this Multiple least cost routing option also give a warning or "expensive" message on the screen???

I would check it myself, but I dont have a 6.1 yet. This is a significantly important feature and would be the reason to upgrade to 6.1 if it worked without the message.

Thanks

Hey, I just did it! Okay here's the deal..... yes, it works without doing the whole 'Expensive call' thing.

This is how I set my system up. I have 6.1 SW in my MICS. I have a DTI card in slot 4, nothing in 3 and 1 LS/DS card in my 1st trunk module, 1st slot.

I put my PRI in PRI-A. I put lines 061-064 into Pool C. I gave my phone access to both pools. I went to Routes and build 2 routes. Route 001 points to PRI-A. Route 002 points to Pool C.

Under Destination codes I showed code 8
Normal mode - Next
Night mode - Show
First rte:None - I hit chnge and entered 001
First rte: 001 - Next
Second rte: None - Chnged to 002

I went to Routing service and went under Sched: Night and turned the service to manual and overflow: Y.

My PRI is down. Not working. I turned my night routing on Feature 873, 23646. Then I went off hook and dialed the dest code 8. I bypassed the inactive PRI and it immediately picked up line 064. It DID NOT give a tone nor show Expensive call!

Pretty cool! The main receptionist phone will still show 'Services on' on her phone all the time but at least it gets rid of the message and tone.
