over size exchange priv.edb in exchange 5.5

I have a excjange 5.5 and it has run out of space. the priv.edb is now 11.2GB out of a 11.5GB drive. I defragging the priv.edb and did not get more that 100MB of free space. could some one tell me how to purge the mailboxes a remove old mailboxes

What is your Network configuration, Anthony?
Do you have NT 4.0 Domain or Active Directory in place?
Is that the only Exchange server?
How many users do you have and how many mailboxes?

I am running nt 4.0 domain and it is the only exchange server.
The size of the top 5 mailbox are 3...GB, 1...GB, 400MB and the rest is bellow that and above 100MB

Sorry about the delay!

May be you should consider Archiving the mail older than 01/01/06 for the first three users.

The content will be available fot the users in their Outlook but will reside locally on their machines.
It is a good idea to burn a DVD with the archived files in case of a hardware failure of the desktops.
Do not forget to perform offline defrag after the archiving.
