Genius!!

What about IPR though or even the company you work for may not like it that other people are looking at their code - presumably the programmer on slashdot is keeping this on the qt....

...of course the down-side is that you promote yourself into the role of Unnecessary Middle Manager, and it will only be a matter of time before the company you work for realises that they can pay your subcontractor peanuts directly, and cut you out of the loop.

But that's alright. I suppose you can always move overseas yourself and then get paid peanuts by one of your former friends to do his job for him/her.

This story was in Wired magazine this month. It's based off a slashdot post that was never confirmed.

I would regard this as another example of lazy journalism.

Which is not to say it didn't happen -- but it hasn't been independently confirmed.

Wasn't there a Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. novel which included as part of the plot a U.S. government program where a person could build a robot to do his job? Once you had replaced yourself with the robot, you'd get a percentage of the salary you would have received had you kept the job. As I recall, a number of people made themselves millionaires, going from job to job replacing themselves with robots.
