One of our extensions has a personal line that goes through the merlin system and it has telco voice mail and he has a voice mail in the system as well. Some how most of his messages that are supposed to be recorded in his outside voicemail are being recorded in his internal vmail. As a test we tried it this morning we called it rang like it was supposed to and we got his outside vmail box and then we hung up , but then maybe 2 mins later we called than line again and it rang once and gave his internal greeting for his internal vmail. Why does this do this.

We need to know what model/version of voicemail you have and how your voicemail is set basically up. How do calls get to the person's phone? Are calls directly dialed to the phone in question? Are they transfered by an operator? Are they transfered by the voicemail autoattendant?

Try assigning his personal line to an unused adjunct extension, and making that adjunct the Primary User of the line. This way, the line won't forward or cover.

i have a Merlin Mail R3.TTT how do i assign that line to an adjunct i have a bit of experience but am still learning.there is no AA unless Night service is on.He is the only person here with that line assigned to his telephone.

What extention dial plan do you have now? The default dial plan starts with extention 10. Each MLX-style phone has an adjunct extention as well - the default numbering starts at 710. Unless you have an MFM installed in an MLX phone - the adjunct is unused and available for what TTT described. I would use the adjunct for his own extention.

Once you decide which adjunct will own the line, treat it like any other extension. Go to Extensions, Lines & Trunks, dial the Adjunct's extension number and Enter, then assign the line. Then under the Lines and Trunks menu, on the 2nd page will be Principal User, where you specify the line and its owner.

To find the adjunct for your user, go to Maintaince, Port, Station, dial your user's extension number, then Status, and finally Next. This will show you a logical adjunct to use for this purpose.

Be sure to label the adjunct in some way so when someone else is programming on the system, they have some clue as to why it is there and set up that way.

We are on a 3 digit dial plan starting with ext.100 the person in question is ext.173 and he has no adjunct.

If he has an MLX phone, he has an adjunct. If it is a single-line phone, there is no adjunct.

Then, he has no adjunct - jusy any MLX phone's adjunct.

So i could use the adjunct but make his extension the primary owner. As of right now im not using any of the adjuncts for anything.

Yes - just like TTT described - pick an adjunct - assign his line to it and make the adjunct the principal owner of the line. That way calls on that line will ring on the adjunct forever - and not cover to the local voicemail - but to the Telco voicemail. On his phone - you can put a primary or seconday cover button for the adjunct extention. That way - when he is in the office and someone calls the adjunct - his extension will ring. When he is out of the office - it will cover to the Telco voicemail.

You DON'T need to cover the adjunct - just assign the private line to both the adjunct and the Partner 18-D phone. The line will ring on both extensions at once, but since the adjunct is the Principal User, and has no coverage or forwarding paths, the line will not end up at the Partner's mailbox, but follow the telco's CF on NA.

ok Guys i have tested and used this process and it works great thanks very much for the help Tom and TTT.
