Anyone know if a standard Bix-in/Bix-out Gas lightning protection block installed on an overhead data cable will pass data without problems?
This would be the same concept as telephone installation ... but on a data cable.

Am going to duplicate post in the Gen Telephony section.

porta systems come to mind i don't know about bix
but 66 for sure itw lynx is another

I'm doing it on a 25-pr CAT 5 cable for about 180 feet. Using Circa terminals and standard 5-pin modules.

FWIW, running several T1 circuits over T1-rated exchange cables, same terminals and protector modules, all working fine with lengths over 300 feet.

MO,

If you are going overhead with that 25pr cable with ethernet on it, your clamping voltage using standard modules will not be enough to protect the equipment in the event of a lightning strike.

why not pull fiber and forget about the protection ?
