Outside PAT

We are using PIX v6.3 and are trying to setup an Outside PAT. In principle it looks fairly straightforward, but after applying the PAT;
nat (outside) 2 150.45.99.0 255.255.255.0 outside 0 0

all translations to the outside failed (syslog displaying no xlation groups found).

I can provide further details if required, but why would adding an outside PAT that doesn't overlap with any other globals cause xlations to fail?

Have you tried:
global (outside) 2 <External IP addresses>
nat (inside) 2 <internal IP addresses>
