I am setting up a phone system that is going into a new office in Barcelona, Spain.

Does anyone know what people in an office in Spain dial to access an outside line and the operator?

In the U.S. people generally set up the PBX so 9 gives dialtone out to the PSTN and 0 routes to the operator.

Thanks.

Traditionally, in Europe, a special outside line key was pressed beofre dialing an outside key. I don't recall what this key was called, but I think it had a letter associated with it (R?)

I am not sure how common this is today - I do know that at least in some cases it works like in the USA with an 8 or 9 prefix.

Good luck.

That's the way we do it, folks!

Best regards from Europe

Nope in the UK 9 is outside and 0 is operator, or is that of us that have used Nortel gear, so have the Yankee Doodle way (yes I know their Canadian)...lol.
Don't forget are PRI's are different (read better).
Oh and the Spanish tend to prefer the systems set up in Spanish, however on the upside, they tend to speak better English than most teenagers by me.

Dear StuReeves

Still Spain isn't the good old UK.
I am from Denmark in the northern part of Europe, but have some family in Spain.
That why I know!

I also know the canadian way, by the way...

in fact the uk is not the good ole uk, i do wish someone here (states) would offer e1, i can't even use it between sites where i control both ends.. i wish i could install a old stepper switch with 1a1 key behind it, but then we couldn't afford all that copper. 25 and 50 pair home run per station.. and diode matrix.. never mind, the good old days sorta sucked
