Hi,
Question- I have put an alert horn outside for the phones. It rings all the time now when the phone rings. What I would like to do is add a button on all merlin legend sets so when you go outside you can press just one button and make it ring outside. When you come back in press just one button on the same phone to shut it off. I was thinking make the unit its own extension and forward calls to it but to forward you need to press forward then dial the extension.

Thank you !

Jake

You could use Night Service to achieve this effect. Phones would have to be designated QCC or DLC consoles to have a Night Service button, and there is considerable programming required.

You can install a COVER button on desired phones, and program the extension to have the horn extension be covering. You must return to the same extension to turn off coverage. While "covered," all calls ringing at the covered station will also ring on the Horn station.

If you don't mind returning to the original location, and you like hardware solutions, you could install a toggle switch adjacent to each telephone, using a spare pair in your in-wall wiring. Back in your telecom closet, all the switches are wired in parallel, so any one of them turned ON would enable the outside horn.

If you are really clever, you could install a toggle relay on a T/R extension. Each time the toggle relay receives a ring signal, it changes from ON to OFF or vice versa. Then install an Auto Intercom button on each desired phone for that extension. Press the button, the extension rings, and the relay toggles.

I have it wired right now where you can plug in the horn as you go outside and unplug it as you come in but I would like to wire it up with just the phone system not adding existing wire and parts as this is in a house. I like the cover button idea... Could you explain i am not sure how to program an analog extension as a receiver. and im not sure how to make a digital set as a sender. Only did senders and receivers for auto- voicemail-- that was a while ago....

Thanks Jake
