Is this some thing which should be avoided, due to possible problems with the RIP process?

I have a file with a few placed TIF's (logos etc), and some images which I have used a clipping mask on.

Does anyone have any experience with out putting such files - or should I just do it all in Quark?

Thanks again!

No, it should be ok,
I would make sure that the Fonts are outlined (to save problems on the Print shops end)
Also make sure your images are embeded, or if they are linked, then make sure you supply them with the Illustrator file.

Yeah, it's not so much the fonts or the fact there is a placed image, but more specifically, the fact that the image has a clipping mask.

Does anyone here have experience with outputting such files?

The file with the clipping path I would save it out as a EPS file.

Just one other thought. sometimes RIPs have problems with TIFFs with LZW compression. You might make sure that your TIFFs have no compression.

If you're using a TIFF as a masking object, you could have problems. Illustrator like masking objects of be vectors. If you're masking the tiffs with a vector you should be ok.
