Hi,

I am having a lot of trouble with Outpost Firewall Pro 2 which I purchased a couple of weeks ago to use on a Windows ME system.

I reformatted my hard drive to clear everything out and start again, using all original hardware, and as part of my “new” computer, purchased Outpost Pro 2. It continually refused to work, so I kept reformatting and reloading, always with the same result. In the end I loaded only Windows ME, OE6 and IE6, and Outpost and it still wouldn’t work.

I had an exchange of e-mails with their support team, but they couldn’t find the problem. Eventually I asked for my money back as their program clearly wasn’t going to work – I haven’t heard from them since.

The problems I am having are:

The installation routine seems to go OK & outpost sets itself up with my programs OK.

Reboot goes OK.

Then there is no sign of Outpost in the System tray, despite clicking on Start/Programs/Outpost.

Try another reboot, get error message with Outpost Firewall pro in the title bar saying: This program is not responding. It may be busy, waiting for a response from you or it may have stopped running.

Click on End Task.

Get similar error message with title of "trasherrormessage" in title bar.

Force another reboot with on/off switch ( computer will not shut down with outpost installed and set to Policy/Rules Wizard, I just get left with a flashing cursor in middle of screen. Computer shuts down correctly in Policy/Allow Most).

Everything now appears normal - outpost in systray.

But none of my internet programs can get through on Policy/rules wizard and eventually time out - regardless of what rules are set.

The only way I can get internet programs to work is to shutdown outpost, or to set policy to allow most.

I am basically left with a firewall that completely blocks everything unless I set it to allow everything, in which case there is no point in having a firewall.

Can anyone beat outpost’s support and suggest what is going wrong?

Many thanks
