Outlook97 Mail Send/Receive needs a "push"

When I open Outlook97, new emails won't appear until I click on Tools/Check for new mail (or hit the F5 key). Also, when I send a message, it stays stuck in the Outbox until I hit F5 again. Nothing goes in or out until I manually force it through. I've looked for settings to correct this but can't find any.

How have you got it set up? Are you opening to the Exchange mailbox or are you connected to an Exchange server? Manually doing a send and receive is what you are doing. If you are not on Exchange check tools services and set it to send and receive every 6 minutes.
