Hi All,

I have an end user who has outlook2003. When entering email addresses, the address is not remembered in the cache. I have read the following link to follow on how to reset the nickname cache:

The problem is, when doing a search for this hidden file, even though during the search I have checked for hidden files and folders, the NK2 file is nowhere to be found. The location of the file should be in c:\documents and settings\Profile Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook but this file cannot be found. Has anyone run into this issue before? Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Zoey

If you're absolutely sure that the file isn't there and it's not being created, my next thought is to make sure the user has write permission ot that folder - have the user create a new text file there or something.

Sometimes 'cleaning software' like ccleaner & others can be set to delete this type of information. Is something like that a possibility?

Smah,

Thanks for your email.
He does have Administrator rights to his workstaton (WindowsXP).

That by itself does not immediately guarantee write permission to the folder if the NTFS permsision are out of wack.

Smah,

Sorry, I didn't respond to your other notes to the post. It may be possible he has software such as Windows Defender, and he may have played around with other software. If he did have software the deleted this file, would my next step be to just reinstall office? Would a detect/repair restore this file?

Thx

Problem solved

At one time this user was upgraded from office2000 to office2003. The nickname cache file had an extension of profile.nick. I renamed this to profile.nk2.
