The security settings are set too high Outlook. Go to Tools\Options\Security and uncheck "Do not allow..... A word of caution though is that some viruses come attached to file attachments. If you have anti-virus software then you should be alright, but if you don't then install one before diabling the above mentioned security feature. L Pena in West Texas.

Howdy:

The instructions you gave are for Outlook Express NOT Outlook..

As for Outlook, this entails a regisrty change due to the new "attachment Level" security put into Outlook 2002.

if the attachment is a .exe file you can't open it with outlook.

SO your are saying no go with Outlook???? Nothing like MS taking over the world and telling you how to act. Guess I'll have to run outlook express and resend it.
Thanks ICON58

Run Regedit, and go to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Security (change 10.0 to 9.0 for Outlook 2000 SP3 or to 11.0 for Outlook 2003`fs)

Under that key, add a new string value named Level1Remove.

For the value for Level1Remove, enter a semicolon-delimited list of file extensions. For example, entering this:

mdb;url

would unblock Microsoft Access files and Internet shortcuts.

If you are using this registry entry, a glance at Help | About Microsoft Outlook will show Security Mode: User Controlled above the license information.
-------------------
Because Microsoft has not forced attachment blocking on Outlook Express (though it is optional in OE 6.0), you can access .exe files from Outlook messages imported to OE. To make this process easier, consider creating a separate folder in Outlook to which you copy messages with attachments that you want to import. To import into OE, use OE's File | Import command.

Right now, you occupy a point where three lines reach across the expanse of time and space and intersect only there, and that you and only you possess.

On this page: there is a link for "Attachment Options." This is a Com add-in to Outlook that allows you to specify which, if any, attachments Outlook should block. It installs itself as another tab in the Options window. I've used it in Outlook XP and 2003 and it works perfectly.
