Anyone know of a solution to the following setup:
- Outlook XP with Service Pack 3 installed
- An exchange (server based) Email account
- ActiveSync 3.8 (the latest) is installed
- When it tries to sync, Outlook pops up the message "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook" and offers the "Allow access for: " 1/2/5/10 minute options.

I know about the ClickYes program, but don't really want to circumvent Outlooks security like that. Nor do I want to downgrade to SP2.

I thought ActiveSync 3.7.1+ was supposed to resolve this issue, but its still happening... :|

I had the same set-up as you with one exception: I was running ActiveSync 3.7.1. I didn't know that 3.8 was out until I read your post so I just upgraded.

After an annoyingly convoluted installation process* I received the same message as you on my first sync. I just clicked 'yes' to allow access, not choosing a time limit, and it hasn't asked me again. I tried re-syncing and logging off/on but it still hasn't asked me.

Did you ever get that confirmation dialog when you were using ASync 3.7.1? If not then I suspect it's a bug in the new version and would recommend reverting to 3.7.1 until it's fixed.

* As an aside, why does ActiveSync insist that your PPC is a new device after any significant change? Whenever I have to hard reset my device (which I have to do more often than is reasonable) ASync thinks it's a different machine and I have to create a new profile, even if I've restored the PDA to its old settings from a backup. Same story when I just upgraded ASync. Grr... sorry, had to get that off my chest!

Nelviticus - I used to have that problem, and I have 8 of the things to look after, it was a real pain! It stopped after I turned off the 'autobackup when connected' functionality. Now all I do is re-attach the device, connect as guest, restore from the chosen profile and reboot - device is then back like new with no new profile to be created. Do you have the auto backup on?

I didn't want to hijack dhawthorn's thread but - no, I don't have auto backup turned on. I normally backup to and restore from the PDA's flash memory, that way I can recover it if it zonks out when I'm away from work. I can live with it, it's just annoying that ActiveSync doesn't recognise it as being the same device that was connected before the reset/upgrade.

I upgraded from 3.7 to 3.8 directly - I never used 3.7.1.

I don't know if we've tried the answering "yes" without a time limit - something I'll have to ensure I try and see if that fixes the problem.
