I have a workstation on the network that has Windows 2000 SP3 installed with Outlook XP and it is has an Exchange 5.5 SP4 connection. The connection can be extremely slow. It is never as good as it should be, but it is often unbearable. Today, it took 10 minutes to open and read the first email. We have other 2000 machines on the network, but they are using Outlook 2000 and they do not have the speed issue. Occasionally when trying to move an item from the Exchange client to a PST will pop up an error that it cannot move the item, but it you try it again it is successful. Any ideas? Thanks.

XP and Outlook are highly dependent on DNS services. Since no details have been provided, I'm only guessing, but your symptoms really sound like you have DNS issues.

You want to make sure your XP machines are pointing to the proper DNS and that you have a valid MX record in the DNS pointing to your mail server.

You can check from the XP machines with the following commands in a DOS prompt:

NSLOOKUP
>set q=mx
>domain.com

It should list you your mail exchanger (MX) preference list and the IP listed should be your Exchange server.

Hope this helps.
