I installed Internet Explorer as a trial, but Outlook would not run so I uninstalled it. Now Outlook says I need Outlook Express 4.1 or higher to run. Outlook Express is installed and runs fine. I uninstalled Office, rebooted twice, reinstalled it, and Outlook still gives the same error message. I've looked at the Microsoft site and they only give suggestions for operating systems other than Windows XP. I've also tried repairing Office XP Pro, but it does not work either. I do not see Internet Explorer 6 in my add/remove choices. I've tried to reinstall Internet Explorer 6, but it says a later version is already installed and quits. I'll appreciate any advice.

What is the full error message you are getting as when you say it won't run there must be an error message with full details??

Personally I would of said Outlook not working would not be connected to IE 7 install but I could be wrong!

Can I also check you are going into Outlook and the problem is happening in Outlook NOT Outlook Express which is different and not the same.

when you look in add and remove programs is Internet Explorer version 7 listed ? If so try doing a repair on it.

In office XP try again doing a repair rather than an un-install.

As mentioned above, please provide error message in full to help further

Thanks so much for your reply. The error message is: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update website."

Outlook Express is loaded and works fine. I tried to reinstall Internet Explorer 6 so that Outlook Express would be reinstalled with it, but I got the error message that a later version of Internet Explorer is already installed and it quit. I've tried several times.

Apparently, when I uninstalled the Internet Explorer 7 to go back to version 6, it did something to cause the problem. I should have known better!

Again, I appreciate your response.

One option might be to try and install Office 2003 or 2007, I have had a read through on a few searches via google and it seems the version of Outlook you have through Office XP does need files that Outlook express uses. But for version 2003 and onwards files were not shared with Outlook Express.

Maybe you could download a trial version of Office 2007 even if you don't have access to the software, even a 30 day trial might do the trick, its worth a go.
