Have a user who is running office 2000. When she tries to open outlook it takes about 20 seconds + to respond and open; Then when the application is open and she clicks to open a mail, write a new mail, do anything at all she has another 20+ second wait.

Her preferred DNS is the exchange server she is logging to. Ping responses from the server are <1ms.

Has me baffled. Anyone got any ideas. And as mentioned before all other applications open instantaneously and there is nothing hogging cpu time in the background either

is that exchange server also a DC? That's the transaction you're seeing when opening outlook, the user is being authenticated against the local DC, which is then forwarded to the exchange server.
Since you say "a" user, I'll assume no one else has this problem? Is there anything unique about this user? Does she have many personal folders on networked drives, for example?

Any type of Outlook add-ins such as search bars. Have you tried temporarily stopping antivirus. The AV hook could be corrupt.

Have you tried recreating her Outlook profile. That is the easiest thing to do and it solves a bunch of problems.
