Ok, Im not that good with Access, can do the basics but when it gets overly complicated I just need a push.

Im building a Booking program for a friend of mine, (it does a lot more than that, but the booking section is where the problem is), and what he is looking for would be a Calendar type form, similar to the Outlook Calendar, where he can input the bookings. He wants it this way so he can see at a glance if a room or an employee is free at whatever time a booking is requested for.

My question is, can this be done?? Ive trawled google and found nothing so Im thinking maybe not, but if it could how easy would it be to implement.

Using Access07 by the way

Any feedback be much appreciated.

Dave

There is not anything native to Access that I am aware of that will do that. There is the Calendar control but it is only for selecting a date. I have not used Access 2007 much at all though.

You might be able to come up with a report that effectively shows what is scheduled but to do it interactively to prevent conflicts is not something I would want to try to do. You could select a time and then display the two appointments closest to it before and after to give some idea for scheduling.

Thats what I was thinking alright, I have a report setup which he can run to show all appointments on a particular day, but he was 'expecting' something more clear. I even put a button on the form linking to the report!!

Thanks lameid for confiming

It would be a ton of data but you could create time in blocks... Say 48 30 minutes blocks per day. Then you would have 48 records per day. Then you could relate those blocks to an appointment. Blocks without appointments would be free.

Possibly easier to manage would be having records for the free time and updating them as appointments are scheduled. Although this would be more cumbersome to display.

Hmmm... Blur the two. Have the 48 blocks in one table. Then scheduling in another table. Use two queries to display the schedule. One that shows the block for the appointmen and one that outer joins to it.

No idea is going to be easy aside from writing a control in a programming language and using it or simply using another platform for the user interface. But then you should use SQL express (or whatever they call it now).
