We have Signatures setup in Outlook, and when you reply to an e-mail it strips out the graphic and replaces it with this:

<< OLE Object: Picture (Metafile) >>

Any ideas why this happens, or how to can be changed to be avoided? The original image is a bitmap (.BMP) Thanks,

GVN

Are the email accounts that you are replying to 'text' only??

These clients will not normally accept graphics. By default if the msg is from a 'text' only user then the reply will also be text only.

Hope this Helps

It it's text only, it shouldn't have the OLE link - it should just not be there.

But I wouldn't recommend using .bmp files. Convert those to .gif or .jpg

When you added the signature, did you save it as a word doc ? I've seen problems before where I would add a picture but not used the advanced edit feature and save it as a word doc in an available location. Just a suggestion.

I hope you find this post helpful.

No, as either Rich Text or HTML format...

It appears in the original e-mail, then screws up in the replies and/or Forwards.

defintely html format. When you go to edit your signature, go to tools, options, then click on the Mail format tab, Make sure your signature is set for new messages and replies and forwards. Try saving the word doc in a different location.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Now I am getting this message anytime I reply or forward and email:

---------------------------
Microsoft Internet Explorer
---------------------------
Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I've looked at all the IE Security Settings and turn them to 'Enable', but it still does it. Any ideas???

Thanks,

Not sure why that error was occurring, but a workaround is to code the Signature by hand in HTML, not using Word to do the HTML editing. It fixes the problem. Word sucks as an HTML editor, causing the error somehow...

I've seen that error when a user attempted to use a WORD created signature file. Word does an absolutely HORRIBLE job of generating html. HORRIBLE. You can hand code it using 10% of the code that Word would use.

Hi all,
I recently used Front Page to generate a HTML Sig. with graphics and it works great. The graphics file was in .jpg and I placed both the .htm & .jpg in:

C:\Documents and Settings\userid\Application Data\Microsoft\Signatures

Then I selected the .htm file as my sig. in Outlook looks fine even in a reply.
