I'm having an issue with a colleague who reports that email in various folders is appearing as unread which has actually been read. I've tried deleting the local OST file and recreating and tried recreating the Outlook Profile. Any other ideas??? Could this be a sync issue???

I have a similar problem. I am running Windows XP Pro with different user accounts. These accounts appear on desktop. When mouse cursor hovers above my account it indicates that I have 6 unread messages in my inbox. When I log on the inbox is empty. I have tried selecting all messages and clicking on "mark as read" but this did not work. Tried resetting original current view as suggested in thread605-1169871 but no joy either. Do not really want to have to uninstall and reinstall Outlook 2003 as it is on a home computer with wife and two sons' email accounts but looks like this might be my only option unless someone has another solution, please.

Further to my earlier posting this p.m. I decided to delve into my Windows XP registry to see what I could modify and now have a fix for the problem I posted.

Run regedit
Select: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/UnreadMail

You should then see any email accounts associated with you as a user.

Select the email account giving the false "unread" message

Click on MessageCount in right pane
Right click mouse
Select Modify
Reset Value Data to 0 (Zero) (assuming all messages have been read)
Click OK
Close Registry Editor
